Singapore August 1st – 5th 2017
I arrive into Singapore 9:30 at night, I start walking in one direction and soon find the first backpackers hostel for $28. a night for dormitory.
Many backpacker hostel’s in the area and around the Little India has many backpacker hostel even cheaper and all seem to be competitively within a couple of dollars either way, this one that i found and staying at is called ‘Five Stones Hostel’ on Beach Road, which is good because it seems to be a direct route and walking distance to many attractions and or places to see, if you like walking. I have walked to Chinatown, Little India, Singapore Flyer, Singapore River, Marina Bay Sands, I have walked and walked, but apparently if you buy a concession card it is good for MRT and bus which one can save money.
Now one place I did not visit which I was told about was the underground shopping, which I am not really into shopping but just wanted to see the underground economy under the streets, but then I did experience such in Japan.
Here at Five Stones Hostel it is clean, Wifi is good, complimentary breakfast; I was happy getting black coffee with toast and peanut butter, as I find many places do not serve peanut butter, a set of complimentary washer and dryers were available to clean your clothes which was bonus for me.
Day 1 here for me was walking to Suntec Mall which has a Giant Hyperfresh grocery store and a fabulous food court, called Food Republic where you have many choices of just about anything you wish to eat and drink, do check out the fresh juice bar. Then just walking around the streets to get my bearings of area as not to get lost taking many photos, came back to hostel for something to eat and a short break, while I changed clothing and camera to go for a walk to Chinatown at night for the night photos of the city, this ended up being a 3 hour walk there, around and back. So I walked at least a good 6 hours or more the first day.
Day 2 I walked around this area and then eventually walking to Little India which is close to this Hostel and also to walked past Bugis MRT which is the nearest station as I would eventually come here to go to airport when i leave. Many big fancy shopping malls all in the area also there was one which was very similar to an open market or a busy Chinatown With many vendors selling food, toys, clothing, gadgets, homewares and more, but busy with buyers. I bought some fresh fruit to eat later for my dinner. For a nighttime walk and photography, I went to the area of the Marina Square and Singapore Flyer which is the big lighted ferris wheel, in this area is also a lighted foot walking bridge where many visitors take photos of the high-rises in the background with the Singapore river below, at night it all looks very beautiful, colourful as everything is well brightly lighted.
Day 3 I walked back to ‘Little India’ what can I say I wanted another taste of ‘aloo gobi’, this is an Indian dish I cannot get enough of, cauliflower & potato in a spicy gravy sauce, and I ate this at a Vegetarian restaurant called Greenleaf Cafe about.php where they advertise ‘The One & only Herbal (Vegetarian) Restaurant in Singapore thus for those that are vegetarian/vegan and/or very health conscience this is the place, as they use no MSG, no preservatives, no re-use of cooking oil, no white sugar, no artificial colours. I walked around many streets of this Little India area, sure is exciting, colourful and lively.
Day 4 I finally experienced the MRT by taking it to the airport for the flight to Indonesia, the cost was only $2.40, with one simple transfer of trains and I was right at the airport, much cheaper than a taxi and it was simple and easy. I enjoyed my stay in Singapore, perhaps wish it was a little longer to explore more, but a little costly for my travelling budget.
